This class is designed for both crash investigators and criminal investigators as the software is applicable to the needs of each professional.

With today’s technology, gone will soon be the days of creating crime scenes and crash scenes with a pencil and a measuring tape.  Computer software allows us to create 3-D replications with extremely high precision in a fraction of the time.

When drawing on paper, mistakes are not easily corrected; objects have to be redrawn for each demonstration, not to mention long tedious hours spent creating various size drawings and of course the storage.  In CAD programs, mistakes are corrected easily; objects are created only once and reused as often as you need in the drawing.  Making prints of your drawing of any size is very simple and your drawings can be stored on a disk.

A CAD program is like a toolbox – it contains powerful commands for each of your conventional drafting tools like the T-square, Templates, and so on.  This course will instruct the student the most effective methods of using the tools available for computer mapping.  The student will learn from lecture, real world examples and “hands-on” experience generating immediate results.

The student will have the opportunity to review and practice the proper form in which to display data, learning the techniques that have lasing impressions for the viewer.  Students will also learn how to prove the accuracy of their diagrams and the procedure(s) associated for admission of their diagram as evidence in our court systems.

Lastly the student will be instructed on the methods of file conversion and reading data collect by instruments such as LTI lasers, Nikon, Top-Con, Sokia Total Stations.

System requirements needed to support CAD Zone software:

A pentium PC with Windows 98,2000 XP, or Windows NT 4.0 of higher.  A VGA monitor and graphics card, 128 MB of RAM or higher, 80MB of hard drive of higher.

The following subjects will be covered and more:

  • Measurements Systems
  • XYZ Coordinates
  • Triangulation
  • Baseline
  • Reference Points
  • General Mapping
  • 3D Mapping and Drawing Basic s
  • Elevation
  • Photography
  • Getting Data Admitted Into Courts
  • Exercises
  • Downloading and Review Data
  • Creating Maps from Raw Data
  • Manual Extraction of Data
  • Creating Symbols
  • Equipment Parameters
  • Tips and Tricks
  • Efficiency Discussion

Instructor:  Mike Allard is recognized by CAD Zone as having attained the coveted position of Master Instructor for all their software programs.  There is no level higher in the industry. He is also a Beta tester for CAD Zone which means that he has input into the development of CAD Zone before it ever becomes available for sale to public safety.  That, plus the fact that he is a full-time police officer with 23 years experience where he is his agency's lead crash reconstructionist and crime scene investigator makes him the person you want teaching you in this class because he does it every day.
