Pittsburgh, PA April 4, 2009 Recent headlines like those above drive home a sense of reality to all of us as law enforcement officers that every day may be our last. However, if one of our own is trapped in a situation where their life could be taken at any moment, we want to get him or her out. This 2-day train-the-trainer course teaches just those skills as there may be no time to wait for SWAT or other specialty units. How patrol officers and detectives react to the urgency, may just save a life. Throughout these two days of training, a wide range of scenarios and options are covered for trainers to bring back to their departments and share with their colleagues. You may only get once chance to save a life, your personnel need to be prepared to do so. Who should attend this course: The course is
applicable to SWAT, tactical team
members, patrol supervisors and
trainers in general who wish to understand,
utilize and present to others
the concepts for creating highly effective
extrication methods for removing
other law enforcement officers and
civilians from situations where the
likelihood of death may occur. Course Content: This course will be taught with the law enforcement instructor in mind. Tactics, though applicable to all law enforcement, will be presented in a format suitable for those that will leave the class and return to their respective agencies intent on teaching the same strategies and skills. This course will examine several actual officer down incidents with a focus on what went right, what went wrong and what could have been done to improve the ability of the street officers to effect a safe rescue. The course will teach, in a hands-on manner, tactics for rescuing a downed officer or civilian in a building, open area or a vehicle. It will also show several field expedient modes of extracting downed officers such as using patrol cars and other vehicles or tools that are commonly available to patrol officers and detectives during their tour of duty.
Instructor: Sgt. Scott Oldham, Bloomington, IN is an eighteen year law enforcement veteran with over thirteen years assigned to his agency’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit where he currently commands the primary entry team. Sgt Oldham has instructed officers from many different law enforcement agencies on a wide variety of operational and tactics based topics. Sgt. Oldham has been involved in, planned and lead numerous tactical operations including resolution of incidents involving barricaded suspects, high risk warrant services and the rescue of persons held hostage Sgt. Oldham is a published author contributing to such magazines as S.W.A.T., Tactical Response and Law and Order. He currently writes the bi-monthly “The Sergeant” column for Hendon Publications’ Law and Order magazine where he focuses on topics important to first line supervisors. Instructor: Sgt. Mick Williams, Bloomington, IN, is a thirteen year law enforcement veteran where he has been involved in the training and development of special operations units within his agency for several years. He is a certified Indiana Law Enforcement Instructor where he specializes in Physical Tactics, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Firearms, He has developed training programs in defensive tactics, cvivl disturbance tactics, less lethal tactics, firearms, EVO, basic SWAT and other topics. Sgt. Williams is a regular contributor to Law and Order, Tactical Response and SWAT Magazine.
